Anesthesia Interest Group

The mission of the Anesthesiology Interest Group at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is to help students gain a better understanding of all the career possibilities within the exciting field of anesthesiology. The Anesthesiology Interest Group works with UMMC's Department of Anesthesiology to help carry out this mission through meetings, activities and projects that are designed to offer students more exposure to the field of anesthesiology.

The Department of Anesthesiology fosters a friendly, open environment. Medical students have many opportunities to become more involved and learn more about anesthesiology as a career. Medical students are encouraged to take call with residents, shadow an anesthesiologist, or become involved in research. The Anesthesiology Interest Group works with the Department of Anesthesiology to not only make the student aware of these opportunities but encourage their involvement as well.

American Society of Anesthesiologists' Medical Student Component

The Department of Anesthesiology and the Anesthesiology Interest Group strongly encourages membership to the American Society of Anesthesiologists' Medical Student Component. Each year the chairman of the department demonstrates support of the ASA MSC by nominating and supporting a student delegate for the Medical Student Component House of Delegates meeting at the ASA annual meeting.
